CASE STUDY

California’s Hemet USD increases engagement and advances equity for grades 3-12

Students receive individualized academic help that boosts confidence and keeps them engaged

Expert support delivered on-demand, 24/7 levels the playing field for every single student

The dilemma

To counter a drop in student engagement in the wake of COVID, the Hemet USD wanted to provide extra academic help. However, they knew that traditional in-person tutoring could not fill the gap, because teacher capacity was limited and many students were not able to attend in-person sessions after regular school hours.

The solution

Hemet USD sought a solution that would give all students—from advanced to English learners to those with IEPs—access to professional tutors across every subject area. Having seen neighboring districts successfully adopt Paper’s 24/7 on-demand platform, Hemet USD decided to follow suit, rolling out the solution for grades 3 through 12.

The takeaway

After just one month of usage, students had already engaged in 2,887 learning moments, including 1,344 live 1:1 sessions and 1,543 essays submitted for review. School principals cited immediate benefits including deeper student engagement, improved individualized instruction and time savings for teachers when it came to grading papers.
