Bridging equity gaps by providing academic support where, when and how students need it
Unlimited, 24/7 educational support extends academic help to students who traditionally have difficulty accessing it
The dilemma
The switch to distance learning had a negative impact on student grades—especially among the most disadvantaged students. Teachers didn’t have enough hours in the day to serve every student in need of academic support.
The solution
Val Verde sought an academic support solution that could help students any time of day or night, and was accessible by all. They partnered with Paper to provide every student with expert 24/7 homework help, writing feedback and study support across all K-12 subject areas.
The takeaway
After just two months of usage, students engaged in 2,700 learning moments made of live 1:1 tutoring sessions and more than 1,200 essays submitted for review. Socioeconomically disadvantaged students took advantage of the platform more than anyone—and teachers saw improvements that aligned with classroom goals.
About the student population
Val Verde Unified School District beats the odds by graduating 95% of its seniors, versus an average of 84% statewide
