CASE STUDY

A new approach to
academic support
brings equity to
a diverse school
district

“If anyone asks what we’re doing to help provide support for all students, I talk about Paper first.”

— Keith Irish, Assistant Superintendent, Education Services,
South San Francisco USD, California

Helping every student and family in the community—and teachers too

Unlimited, 24/7 academic help that’s free to all students helps learners get ahead while reducing the workload on families and teachers.

The dilemma

The district’s ‘homework center’ model for extra help wasn’t accessible to all students at the times they needed it most. And when Covid hit, students needed help more than ever—but the homework center was completely shut down.

The solution

A neighboring district was already having success with Paper’s 24/7, 1:1 homework help, writing feedback and study support delivered across 200 subject areas by expert multilingual tutors. Administrators felt the same solution would be a success in the community.

The takeaway

With coaching from experts, students of every ability are turning in more polished writing work and grasping academic concepts faster—especially in math. Families and teachers are offering positive feedback. The district plans to fully replace the homework center model with Paper.
