Houston-area students share why Paper™ works for them
- K-12 Topics
Texas’ New Caney Independent School District (ISD) has signed on for a two-year partnership with Paper™. The agreement brings Paper’s innovative Educational Support System (ESS) to 10,904 students in fifth through 12th grade.
With widespread device availability in the Houston-area district, students are in a strong position to take advantage of the academic support offered by the ESS.
Kristi Shofner—the executive director of school leadership and learning at New Caney ISD—believes 24/7 support provided by Paper will be a big benefit for students.
“We are very excited about our partnership with Paper! Paper will give our students the 24-hour academic support they need to excel in any subject and thrive.”

In their own words: Thoughts from students
Several New Caney ISD high school students have taken to the Paper platform already, and the experience has proven quite encouraging—especially for tricky math concepts. After all, working with a tutor online helps students build the confidence it takes to ask for help and excel in any subject.
“I needed help, and I was too shy to ask my teacher,” said one ninth grader. “They were really nice—and they were actually helpful and patient.”
Students reported accessing Paper through Canvas and hearing positive recommendations from their peers.
“I heard from my cousins that they had an online tutor, so I searched on my Chromebook, found Paper, and [logged in],” shared another ninth grader. “They helped me with geometry, and I will be using Paper again.”
“I used it when I saw the announcement in Canvas and got help in algebra at home,” said a 12th grader. “I love that the school is providing this.”
